In just it’s second year, the RUN THE TAN showcase event, is proving to be one of the most popular and fun running events for Melbournians. From Elite Athletes, Sporting Idols & Celebrities, to Emergency Services, Schools, Recreational Runners, Families and General community – there is something for everyone!

The charity running event which raises funds and awareness for Mental Health, is providing a new, fresh, engaging format for all walks of life to get moving and get involved. It is an all inclusive event and there was even an Elite Race Walkers feature event this year, which was well represented by some of Australia’s best elite race walkers. It was amazing to see how fast these athletes could walk around the iconic Tan Track and compare to run times.

In the Elite showcase event, Jessica Hull was the highlight who won the women’s elite event in a time of 11:46, just 11 seconds shy of breaking the all-time women’s record of 11:35 held by Linden Hall.  Craig “Buster” Mottram still holds the all-time official fastest time around The Tan of 10:08, which he set in 2006 in a time trial against Richmond Football Club where he gave all the players a 2:30min head start and still ran them all down.

Sporting Idols & Celebrities came out to play at the Run the Tan showcase event on 24 April including; Chrissie Swan (Australian television and radio personality) who lead a sea of red Team Nova fans, Archie Thompson (Australian former professional footballer / Club Ambassador for Melbourne Victory + The Mayor of Everywhere), Bernard Curry (Australian Actor and Writer + Ambassador for One in Five) and Dave “Hughesy” HUGHES (one of our funniest Aussies).

Anthony Koutoufides (Carton AFL Great) was there as well as Matthew RICHARDSON (Richmond AFL Superstar) who ran a very handy time of 16:02 and Dustin Fletcher (Essendon great who played 400 AFL games).  Josh REID-JONES (Just Be Nice Project and Ambassador for One in Five) took out the men’s celebrity challenge event in a time of 15:44.

We were also privileged to have Jackson Warne join on the day to help pay tribute to his Dad, Shane Warne, who was a key Ambassador for last year’s Inaugural Run the Tan event.

Sally Capp (Lord Mayor of Melbourne) officially opened the event and also joined in and walked a lap of the Tan in the Public event.
